The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director works as part of a team to achieve targeted enrollment goals for Columbia Business School's MBA, Executive MBA, Specialized Masters, PhD, Deferred Enrollment programs, and other future degree programs of the School. This role primarily supports the Executive MBA programs. The incumbent will assist in coordinating the recruitment and admissions process to enroll a high-quality, diverse student body, thereby enhancing the community and reputation of Columbia Business School.

Responsibilities

Recruitment and Admissions Responsibilities

* Application Management: Manage the review of applications, ensuring all materials are complete and ready for evaluation. Maintain consistent communication with applicants regarding any missing materials or updates, refining communications where necessary.

* Interviews: Coordinate and schedule applicant interviews, verifying the credentials of all admitted candidates. Conduct interviews and evaluate applicants as a member of the Admissions Committee, making recommendations for admission.

* Admissions Committee: Participate actively as a committee member, reading and evaluating applications, conducting interviews, and providing recommendations throughout the admissions cycle.

* Diverse Applicant Pool: Support recruitment initiatives aimed at building a diverse applicant pool, ensuring that CBS maintains its commitment to attracting a high-quality, diverse student body.

Event Coordination and Marketing

* Recruitment Events: Assist with planning and logistics for on- and off-campus recruitment events. Represent CBS at various recruitment activities by presenting and hosting events.

* Marketing: Promote and market the EMBA programs to prospective applicants, ensuring that recruitment initiatives and messaging are aligned with CBS's strategic goals. Organize and execute recruitment mailings for prospective students, providing details on events, deadlines, and other special topics.

Communication and Collaboration

* Applicant Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with applicants throughout the admissions process to address any application-related topics and ensure a smooth experience for applicants.

* Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments within CBS (e.g., Academic Affairs, Alumni Relations, Computing and Information Services, Catering) to coordinate recruitment activities and events. Engage faculty, administrators, current students, and alumni in admissions-related events and yield activities to support recruitment efforts.

Technology and Tools

* Technology Utilization: Use tools such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Slate, and CRM platforms to manage the admissions and recruitment process. Leverage basic data analytics to support decision-making and improve the efficiency of admissions communication.

Interpersonal and Leadership Competencies

* Customer Service: Exhibit a strong commitment to customer service, providing applicants with timely and helpful support throughout their admissions journey.

* Team Collaboration: Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while balancing independent and team-based tasks. Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to meet recruitment goals.

* Professional Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with diplomacy, tact, and discretion. Display strong interpersonal and relationship management abilities, ensuring positive and professional interactions with all stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 2-4 years of related professional experience required.

  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Ability to balance independent delivery of work with collaborative orientation.

  • Candidate must possess strong skills in communication (verbal and written), diplomacy, tact, and discretion and outstanding interpersonal/relationship management.

  • Knowledge of, and experience using, technology and tools, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Slate and/or CRM tools a plus.

  • Basic data analytics capability. Must live within commuting distance to New York City and have ability to work in person in hybrid work environment.

  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) and work evenings and weekends as required.
