Purpose

The candidate will be responsible for implementing and ongoing execution of the U.S. Operational Risk Management Framework. The framework encompasses the key components of Enterprise Risk Management, including, but not limited to, Risk and Control Self Assessments (“RCSAs”), Risk identification, Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators (“KRIs”), Non-Financial Risk Management Committee, and ongoing reporting and monitoring.

The Operational Risk Senior Manager is accountable for management of complex and large disciplinary areas which requires comprehensive understanding of multiple areas and how they interact. Applies in-depth understanding of business impacts to help manage operational risks.

As a member of the second line of defense for Operational in the U.S., the candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the bank’s operational risk management framework. The role involves collaborating with senior management to ensure effective risk management across all business units and corporate and support functions.

  • The incumbent will be responsible for oversight of RCSA execution, support the Key Risk Indicators management, Issues Management, Operational Risk Events, New Initiatives, and providing support and guidance to the first line to manage operational risks.

  • The senior manager will collaborate closely with the team's Director to identify and execute areas of improvement to strengthen the 2nd Line Operational Risk coverage.

  • As the function evolves, the scope may expand to include other activities under Data Risk.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development and implementation of Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF).

  • Challenge U.S. new products and services risk assessments to ensure all risks in the Bank's Inventory of Operational Risks are appropriately considered.

  • Collaborate with U.S. Businesses and support groups on Key Risk Indicators. Ensure appropriate KRI owners are identified and provide timely information. Partner with the Director on changing the ORM role in KRI management.

  • Provide support for the timely escalation of review findings and reporting on status of remediation. This includes accountability of reporting to senior management, committees on Operational Risk.

  • Support the Key Risk Indicators management which includes ensuring data integrity in the ORM KRI tool. Collaborate with U.S. businesses and support groups on Key Risk Indicators. Ensure appropriate KRI owners are identified and provide timely information.

  • Conduct risk assessments and scenario analysis to identify emerging risks and vulnerabilities. Assess the current scenario analysis program and implement changes to strengthen the process.

  • Foster a strong risk culture across the organization through training and awareness programs.

  • Support the Director with special projects, continuous improvement initiatives and adhoc reporting.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of 10+ years’ experience working in an enterprise risk, role at a financial institution.

  • Working knowledge of Capital Markets and current regulatory environment in the Financial Services industry.

  • A university degree in business, related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Strong communications, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written with all levels including business units, Corporate Functions, Internal Auditors, management, and regulators.

  • Strong team player who is open to listening, understanding, and collaborating with senior management when introducing new ideas and legislated policy recommendations for action or change.

  • Ability to work independently within minimal supervision.
