Hensel Phelps General Maintenance Technician - Painter in New York City, New York

Compensation Range: $26 - $30 per hour/Part-Time position

The candidate that best aligns with this role will have experience in inspecting buildings, equipment, and systems for any issues at the Avenues World School off Tenth Ave and W25th/W 26th in Manhattan. We are looking for experience in p rofessional interior painting and drywall repairs skills and experience strongly desired or may have experience in schedule repairs for faulty equipment or damaged structures. They also perform general maintenance of the facility and grounds. We are looking for someone who wants to specialize in independent work, extremely detailed, enjoys small projects, fast pace, and structured environment.

Position Description:

Assists or performs daily work orders, small capital projects, routine preventative maintenance, routine work, new installations, and cleanup. Generally, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Due to the nature of this position, work before and/or after hours, as well as on weekends may also be required.

Position Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • One (1+) years’ experience in general maintenance and/or a combination of education and experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills such as internet, email, electronic manual, etc.

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks as needed.

  • Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10 Certification.

  • CPR & First Aid Certification.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists HVAC and electrical mechanics in performing preventative maintenance (PM) tasks on equipment, examining for wear and tear, and making required repairs as needed.

  • Assists and performs PM tasks on items such as roof drains, shop cleanup, and all other assigned areas.

  • Adheres to applicable state and local safety rules.

  • Assists and perform with activities such as painting and priming of interior and exterior walls, hanging and finishing sheetrock, hanging white boards, installing fixtures, etc.
