CSI’s Creative Exchange Continuing Education, lifelong learning program serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We offer learning experiences for personal growth that are unique to college, in and out of the classroom. Our programs are responsive to our student community’s self-identified needs, regardless of ability, and align with best practices in the field of post-secondary education for adults with IDD.

The Creative Exchange Instructor reports to the Director of Community Educational Engagement, and will lead two lifelong learning theater courses for adults with IDD. The first course will explore personal and societal lessons learned from theater. The second course will engage students in drama exercises and other performance-based activities. Course Time and Location: Tuesdays from 6:00pm – 9:00 pm at 2800 Victory Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10314

Other Duties

  • Establish course objectives based on student needs, strengths, goals, and feedback

  • Plan and implement activities based on the student’s individual needs, strengths, and goals

  • Utilize student feedback and performance to determine lessons

  • Create customized lessons for in person theater courses for adults with IDD

  • Facilitate drama exercises for adults with IDD

  • Demonstrates student-centered instruction that protects students’ safety and rights

  • Submit attendance records and quarterly student ratings that track student progress in the course based on the individual needs and goals in the program

  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required

  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Experience working with an IDD population

  • Ability to mediate conflict

  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal) skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • A proactive and organized employee who can work autonomously

  • Excellent time management

    About the Research Foundation

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) was established as a not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963. RFCUNY supports CUNY faculty and staff in identifying and obtaining external support (pre-award) from government and private sponsors and is responsible for the administration of all such funded programs (post-award).
