Alamo Group Inc. Production Supervisor in New Philadelphia, Ohio

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Responsible for all aspects of safety and housekeeping within assigned area.

  • Responsible for maintaining the highest quality standards within assigned area.

  • Responsible for ensuring maximum production within the parameters of high quality and safe practice.

  • Ensures that employees are aware of and practice ISO9001 quality standards.

  • Assigns specific tasks, both routine and exceptional, to ensure the most effective and efficient use of the manpower in his/her area.

  • Ensures that tools and materials essential for the performance of the work are readily available.

  • Identifies potential improvements to the operation or product under his/her control.

  • Provides training and guidance to employees.

  • Evaluates and reviews the work performance of employees.

  • Assesses current and anticipated work volume to maintain proper manpower levels.

  • Cooperates with management of other departments to ensure that work flows in an orderly and productive manner.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of Company Policies and Procedures.

  • Identifies employee problems as they arise and deals with them in a fair and equitable manner.

  • Keeps management informed of any potential problems in his/her area.

  • Maintains comprehensible records to document the performance of his/her area of responsibility.

  • Performs other assignments as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Knowledge and understanding of metal fabrication, machine shop, mechanical assembly, welding, coating and related processes and techniques.

  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing methodology and principles: Five “S”, value stream mapping, waste reduction, takt time, etc.

  • Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.

  • Ability to provide hands-on technical support in a production environment.

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and agency rules associated with employee health and safety in a manufacturing environment.

  • Basic proficiency in the use of personal computers; including manufacturing/production systems and generic mainstream office software (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to a problem.

  • Ability to motivate, develop and direct people to perform at their highest potential.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to formulate and deliver ideas and material in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to overcome resistance to organizational change, influence others and lead change initiatives.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines and production schedules.

  • Ability to wear required PPE including but not limited to safety eyewear, hearing protection and safety toed footwear.

  • Ability to work irregular and/or long hours including weekends and holidays as manufacturing schedule dictates.

  • Knowledge of GMS and safety systems to ensure compliance.

Education and Experience:

  • 3 years practical industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in welding, assembly, and/or machining.

  • Supervisory or leadership experience desirable.

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or related field desirable.

Working Conditions:

Work performed primarily in heavy manufacturing environment. Office located within the production area of the facility requiring frequent walking in and around a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing plant. Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, dust and fumes (rarely to the point of being objectionable).

Extended periods of standing, walking and sitting may be required to meet production scheduling activities.

Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling 20 pounds, stooping, reaching, bending, and climbing in and around fabricated metal parts and manufacturing machinery and equipment.
