Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the position of Engineering Lab Technician within the Division of Engineering Programs in the School of Science & Engineering. The Division of Engineering Programs prides itself on providing students with a rigorous education including regular access to meaningful hands-on learning opportunities. The Engineering Lab Technician is a valued member of our team who ensures that these opportunities happen in a clean, productive, and safe environment by supporting teaching and research activities in our Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering laboratory spaces.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:• Ordering, organizing, and distributing lab kits to students at the beginning of each semester.• Overseeing and maintaining an inventory of parts and electronics in the lab shop and auxiliary engineering work-spaces.• Collaborating with faculty to ensure laboratory equipment is well maintained and operational.• Working with vendors and contractors to maintain laboratory equipment.• Collaborating with faculty to fulfill needs for research projects, such as performing fund transfers and ordering materials.• Liaising between engineering faculty and IT to ensure that all laboratory computers have necessary and updated software installed prior to each semester.• Liaising between engineering faculty and facilities to submit and track the progress of building work orders.• Developing, implementing, and enforcing safety procedures across all laboratory environments.• Collaborating With Campus Environmental Health and Safety to ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain required certifications.• Managing student access to laboratory spaces.• Assisting in the execution and logistics of the annual engineering design expo event.• Other duties as directed by the Chair of the Division of Engineering Programs.
Qualifications: Required:• Hold a minimum of an Associates Degree in a STEM related discipline• Be a motivated self-starter who canbe productive with limited supervision• Be an effective communicator through a variety of modes (written, oral, etc.) and with diverse groups (faculty, students, other departments, etc.)• A basic understanding of electronic parts and a willingness to advance that knowledge• A basic understanding of mechanical and electrical test equipment and a willingness to advance that knowledge.• A working knowledge of tool and shop safety practices
