Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the position of Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Advisor. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) serves as the primary vehicle to increase access, retention, and academic excellence of New York’s historically under-served students (low income, first generation). This is in keeping with the spirit of, and abiding by, the legislative intent that originally established the program in 1968 and maintaining the innovation inherent in the program. We especially encourage applications from individuals who can bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives and experiences to the campus. Duties for this positions include but are not limited to:• Delivery of student retention services to a caseload of approximately 80 students in the areas of academic advisement, career and student development, personal counseling, college adjustment, financial aid processes, and study skills.• Instruct a college success seminar• Some additional programmatic responsibilities required• This is a full-time, 12-month position
Qualifications: Required:• Master’s degree• Prior experience working with culturally diverse students• High degree of empathy and emotional intuition• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills• Problem-solving abilities• A passion for connecting with students• High attention to detail and organization• Computer proficiency• A collaborative and service-oriented approach to work
Preferred:• Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field• Prior teaching experience
