The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (SLFPA-E) operates the regional flood control system and associated Facilities in St. Bernard Parish, the east bank of Orleans Parish and the east bank of Jefferson Parish within its control in order to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NOTE:

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To operate light mobile equipment to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.

Level of Work:

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from a Foreman or other supervisor or administrator or higher level maintenance personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

May exercise leadworker responsibility over laborers or other lower graded personnel.

Location of Work:

May be used by all agencies, statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from laboring classes by the requirement to operate light mobile equipment and/or vehicles as a primary, regular, and recurring duty.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 1 by the restriction to primary operation of lighter mobile equipment.

Examples of Work

The incumbent in this position performs a physical effort to accomplish a variety of tasks in the Maintenance Department of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) under the supervision of a Levee Foreman A, or higher authoritative supervision, as follows:

35% -

Cutting and trimming grass within the Flood Protection Authority Right of way including, but not limited to floodwalls, poles, dead end streets and trees. The incumbent will be required to use gas/diesel powered tools and cutting equipment. The incumbent will operate one or more of the following types of equipment as a primary, regular and recurring function of the job including but not limited to, weed eaters, pole saws, chainsaws, lawnmowers, edger, lopper, hand pruners and self-propelled cutting equipment.

35%-

Cuts grass with self-propelled equipment.

15%-

Removes trash and debris from the SLFPA-E Right of Way. Operate all vehicles and equipment, required by your position, in a proper and safe manner. Secure and trailer self-propelled equipment/mowers to jobsites in a proper and safe manner.

10%-

Performs miscellaneous labor duties such as cleaning of maintenance yard. Washing vehicles, trimming trees, graffiti removal and sand bagging where problems develop.

5%-

Fills and handles sand bags as required.

The incumbent will perform any and all related duties as required or assigned.

The incumbent must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.

Note: The South Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (SLFPAE) is an emergency - oriented agency. Part of the (SLFPA-E) Mission is to protect the residents of the east bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard and the east bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind driven water and riverine flooding.

In Emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
