General Scope of Duties

The College is pleased to announce an opening for an Assistant Director for Alumni and Parent Engagement for Affinity and Identity Programs. Reporting to the Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, the position will design, plan and execute programs aimed at engaging affinity- based alumni constituencies (including, but not limited to, women, Black and Indigenous people of color ( BIPOC ), first generation alumni, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual alumni (LGBTQIA+), alumni with disabilities, international alumni, academic/Center affinities, club/organization affinities, etc).

This position will define a consistent, coherent approach to this work in collaboration with Advancement partners as well as other offices on campus, including the Office of the Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion, the Dean of the College’s Office, and the Center for the Critical Study of Race and Ethnicity ( CCSRE ), the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Intersectionality Studies, and the International Student Advisor. The Assistant Director supports the mission of the Advancement program, building community and creating connections among Connecticut College alumni, both with one another and with the College.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design dynamic engagement and philanthropic strategies, programs and communications to enhance long-term relationships with BIPOC alumni, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) alumni, international alumni and other affinity groups.

  • Collaborate with Advancement colleagues to develop cultural awareness and foster inclusivity in all programming and philanthropy as well as inter-affinity group connections and collaborations.

  • Partner with affinity student clubs and organizations to maximize connections between alumni and students with shared identities or experiences and design ways to capitalize on these connections as students become alumni.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of all affinity-based alumni programs and events on and off campus with key alumni and campus partners.

  • Partner with volunteer groups: Connecticut College Alumni of Color Committee ( CCAC ) and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (D + I) of the Alumni Association Board of

  • Directors) to advance Advancement’s goals for equity and inclusion.

  • Assist and staff virtual and regional affinity-based events.

  • Collaborate and engage with colleagues across campus to support and strengthen this work.

    Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant work or undergraduate experience required; Experience in event planning, volunteer management, and DIEI -focused community preferred.

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated skills, in the engagement of diverse constituencies

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated skills, in the design and implementation of programming for diverse populations

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to build and sustain key relationships with Advancement colleagues, alumni, faculty, and staff.

  • An innovative approach and the ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Occasional weekend and evening hours required to staff events.

  • Occasional travel for volunteer management/recruitment, program support, events and professional development.

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, with use of technology systems and platforms
