This position is located in the Acadiana Area Human Services District –New Iberia Behavioral Health Clinic.
This vacancy is being announced as a classified position and may be filled as a probational or job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to a probational appointments.
This incumbent provides specialized nursing treatment and care to behavioral health outpatient individuals in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, AAHSD policies and procedures, Stat Civil Service, LDH (as applicable), licensing standards, CCBHC guidelines and criteria and CARF accreditation standards. Performs individualized direct care to individuals served that requires training and competence as well as good clinical judgment necessary to assess, plan, and implement appropriate nursing interventions as needed. The incumbent reports to the Mental Health Center Manager B.
NOTE REGARDING THE ADVERTISED PAY:
This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Practical Nurse Licensed 1, 2 or 3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.
The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice practical nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Differs from Practical Nurse--Licensed, 2 by the absence of journeyman level assignments and independent performance of duties.
Examples of Work
Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.
Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.
Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.
Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.
Transcribes physicians' orders and records medication and patient's condition on patient's charts and other records.
Receives and gives change of shift reports.
Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.
Administers CPR in emergency situations.
Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
Gathers information about patient's past and current physical and mental status.
May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.
Applies dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.
Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.
Bathes, feeds, and makes patients comfortable.
Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
