Johnson Controls Acoustic Engineer II in New Freedom, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 20515481 What you will do: The Acoustic Engineer II is an early career Subject Matter Expert (SME) in sound and vibration for HVAC equipment, specifically air-handlers and chillers. In this role, you will gain HVAC industry knowledge and insights as you develop noise control product features, rating tools, and test requirements for commercial HVAC equipment.

You will provide sound and vibration technical support on a variety of projects ranging from product development to job specific sales and field support; working collaboratively with product engineering, product/project management, marketing, product technical services, and sales teams.

How you will do it:

Provide testing support of chillers and air handlers utilizing AHRI standards, gathering instrumentation, and preparing the test setup.

Assist with maintaining sound and vibration instrumentation; calibration, synchronizing equipment list, and keeping an organized laboratory.

Provide technical support to internal and external customers; engineering or application teams.

Review patents and research papers to understand state of the art and provide creative noise control solutions to challenges that arise during new product development.

Ability to organize and participate in testing efforts (testing for internal use and 3rd party witnessing) including data analysis, generating reports, and communicating results to diverse audiences.

Support factory sound testing in accordance with industry standards, preparing reports and communicating results to customers.

Assist with developing equipment sound ratings for publication by Sales and Marketing.

Lead continuous improvement efforts on existing products and test procedures.

Assume sound and vibration responsibility within cross-functional engineering teams.

What we look for: Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related science.

2-4 years' related experience

Training in the field of acoustics and vibration or experience in HVAC design

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

Advanced degree in acoustics or degree with a focus in acoustics

Experience in a testing laboratory and/or acoustic measurement systems; sound level meter, sound intensity, accelerometers, etc.

Knowledge of Acoustic Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) or Statistic Energy Analysis (SEA)
