Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Employment Services, the Senior Employment Consultant, provides oversight for students with disabilities enrolled in Delaware Project SEARCH, as referred by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). The Lead provides outcome-based supervision to the team of Employment Consultants working alongside them. Provides job development, job coaching, and on-going support to transition age students with disabilities and/or special needs. This position directly interfaces with school personnel, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) staff, and parents.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Provide students with disabilities; individually or in groups, with the (5) core content areas of pre-employment transition services inclusive of: job exploration counseling, work-based learning, work readiness training, post-secondary counseling, and instruction in self-advocacy. Manage and coordinate all onboarding activities in conjunction with student and/or student support network including but not limited to school personnel, family, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and host business/work site.

  • Develop and execute employment placement plan to ensure students secure competitive employment at the conclusion of the Project SEARCH program year. Additionally, upon stabilization of employment, the Senior Employment Consultant will assist in the transition to long term support services.

  • Track milestones, measurable standards, performance indicators, and policies that will promote and provide quality pre-employment transition services in compliance with applicable funding and regulatory bodies.

  • Attend IEP meetings and Vocational Rehabilitation Review meetings. Also attend any progress meetings held at the host business/work site to review student internship progression/feedback.

  • Build and maintain professional and productive relationships with individuals/students, members of individuals/students support network, and funding/referral sources providing ongoing communication, soliciting input, requesting satisfaction surveys, and providing thorough documented reports.

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with current and potential employers resulting in knowledge of current employment, assessment, and training opportunities for participants.

  • Maintain files according to policy and procedures to ensure consistent standards are met for regulatory entities.

  • Develop, implement, and document individualized service plans for individuals to include skills training, pre-employment training, situational assessments, job development, job coaching, and long-term support for both competitive and supported employment.

  • Submits milestone required payment system forms in a format approved by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

  • Maintain consumer information database, reflecting students served, services provided, and outcomes attained.

  • Assist in marketing activities by submitting stories for social media and newsletters and creating materials.

  • Participate in community activities and/or provider events coordinated by referral agencies.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, or related human services field plus a minimum of 3 years of program development and training working with individuals with disabilities required.

  • Valid driver’s license, per state law, and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system personnel, students, their families, and vocational rehabilitation/services for the blind.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to develop service plans for individuals with a variety of disabilities and required accommodations.

  • Must possess time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills with the ability to become familiar with corporate specific programs and software.

  • Excellent oral/verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and able to carry out work with the highest levels of accuracy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee will need to walk within an office setting. The employee may occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
