Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Coordinator II for the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers in the built environment group at the Center for Urban Policy Research on externally funded projects supporting the sustainable energy transition. Projects include a mix of research design, fieldwork, data science, simulation modeling, writing, and presentations. Topics include building-level decarbonization, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, occupant behavior, codes and standards, community infrastructures, technology diffusion, policy analysis, and related themes. The projects bring together multi-disciplinary teams for research involving interactions among built environments, technologies and people. A common thread is policy relevance at the state or local level. Funders include the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, and others.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Supports on-going project-based evaluation and market research work for the NJ Clean Energy Program, Board of Public Utilities.
  • Primary and secondary data collection, varied interactions with market stakeholders on various topics of energy decarbonization, data analysis and report writing and development of presentation materials and development and implementation of workshops.
  • Records and shares detailed accounts of their efforts (analysis steps, etc.) and participates in regularly scheduled research team meetings.
  • Involved in producing written reports summarizing research findings and describing research materials and methodology.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's and 2 years of related experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professional knowledge of buildings and associated technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce compelling presentations, including data visualizations, of complex energy concepts for non-professional audiences.
  • Professional knowledge and demonstrated application to clean energy research of sustainable design/architecture, building energy systems, life cycle analysis and cost estimating.
  • Familiarity with policy analysis approaches and methods including benefit-cost analysis, project and program evaluation, stakeholder interest and conflict analysis, and report writing.
  • Data science skills including inferential statistics, GIS, LCA, building energy modeling
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in City Planning, Architecture, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Green building certification and/or professional practice experience in architecture or engineering in application to building systems and materials.
  • Human subject certification. Familiarity with health impact assessment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work activities will be performed primarily at a seated workstation in an office setting, whether at Rutgers or an off-site location per Rutgers' Flexible Work opportunities.
  • Some fieldwork and data collection may also be required.
  • Fieldwork requires mostly in-state travel and outdoor walking in urban settings in New Jersey.
