Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Medical Services Assistant for the Medicine Clinic at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.The primary purpose of the Lead Medical Services Assistant is to serve as a core member of the clinical team. This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the daily clinical workflow as directed by the assistant nurse manager to support effective and efficient clinical operations.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Implements patient experience techniques in all patient interactions, in-person, telephone and telehealth visits.
  • Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements.
  • Obtains pre-certification and/or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management as assigned.
  • Handles provider and professional staff EMR and other correspondence to physicians, patients, and other providers.
  • Monitors patient flow, and communicates with any issues or problems that arise with the clinical staff; seek assistance from clinical staff when communication back to the waiting room is needed.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Oversees at least one medical assistant as directed by the assistant nurse manager.
  • Prepares and monitors all MSA schedules.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a "Certified Medical Assistant" as outlined in NJAC 13:356.4(a)2.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience in a medical office setting.
  • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • The ability to function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated competency in Point of Care Testing.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic word processing and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish); completion of medical interpreter training course.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to accommodate evening and flexible hours.
  • Work Environment: Able to work in a very busy environment.
Special Conditions
  • Able to travel to provide coverage at "off-site" practices as needed.
