Craven Community College Library Circulation Assistant in New Bern, North Carolina
The Library Circulation Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and operational support at the librarys information desk. This position performs a full range of library duties including circulating and organizing materials, providing information and assistance to patrons, and serving as the first line of library communication for phone, virtual, and walk-in support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external patrons through walk-in, telephone and virtual support
- Performs opening duties for the department; may occasionally perform closing duties
- Provides general clerical support to the department; sorts and distributes mail, prepares a variety of reports, monitors and updates library reservation calendars
- Performs library duties at the information desk including circulating materials, registering and maintaining accounts, answering patron questions, and shelving materials
- Creates and rotates displays, flyers, and information promoting library services
- Serves as the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) contact; processes requests, updates records; communicates with patrons and libraries regarding all ILL matters
- Maintains accurate records of overdue materials, fines and fees; corresponds with patrons to resolve issues; flags delinquent user records in the Colleges records management system
- Conducts library tours to showcase library services and facilities
- Processes library fines and fees; receipts money daily
- Regularly records and submits desk and circulation statistics for the department
- Maintains supply inventory and performs requisition requests to order supplies and other library materials
- Participates in the coordination and completion of special projects and events in support of the library
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the Colleges mission, core values and goals
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
One (1) year full-time professional work experience in customer service.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in library/information science, liberal arts or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Academic library experience.
