JOB PURPOSE:

Plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operation of the Laundry Department. Maintains a clean, safe, sanitary laundry department and adequate supply of laundry/linen to meet the needs of the patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists supervisor managing the laundry department

  2. Assists with scheduling and daily assignments

  3. Participates in the interview and selection process for the housekeeping department with the department supervisor or facility leadership

  4. Participates in the counseling or corrective action process for the housekeeping department with the department supervisor or facility leadership

  5. Assists with partner training

  6. Plans, develops, organizes and directs departmental functions.

  7. Instructs, demonstrates and supervises personnel in appropriate laundry techniques.

  8. Establishes and maintains effective inter-departmental communication to provide positive working relationships.

  9. Trained in the operation and proper use of laundry equipment.

  10. Assists with selection of department associates in accordance with established staffing requirements and budgets.

  11. Maintains appropriate supplies and equipment necessary to perform job and in accordance with establish departmental budget.

  12. Responsible for inventory control activities including removal of worn/threadbare and other poor quality linens from circulation.

  13. Responsible for ensuring “Tenet Time” is presented and discussed with all partners prior to and following all shifts.

  14. Cleans lint traps/filters according to established schedules.

  15. Handles soiled laundry items.

  16. Sorts and folds various laundry items (blankets, sheets, towels etc.)

  17. Distributes clean linens carts as required.

  18. Empties washers and dryers as requested/necessary.

  19. Delivers linens/personal laundry according to schedules.

  20. Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.

  21. Replaces chemical in washer system as needed.

  22. Responsible for stain removal

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Some high school education

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

One (1) year in a supervisory capacity in a laundry, housekeeping or environmental services department. Previous experience as a laundry attendant in a healthcare or long term care facility.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

High School degree or its equivalent preferred.

Preferred, as minimum, two (2) year (s) experience in a Supervisory capacity, in a hospital or other related medical nursing center.
