POSITION TITLE:Educational Diagnostician

REPORTS TO:Exceptional Children Director

BEGINNING DATE:Open Until Filled

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:10 months

SALARY:State Teacher Salary Schedule (based on experience)

FSLA STATUS:Exempt

NATURE OF WORK:

The Educational Diagnostician will work directly with a School Psychologist. The Educational Diagnostician will be a member of the students interdisciplinary team and will be responsible for initial and ongoing psycho-educational assessments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of ECATS and ability to access information
  • Be able to effectively answer questions regarding IEP process
  • Knowledge of federal law regarding IDEA and its impact on public education
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development and learning theories
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents, employees, school personnel and the public
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field required
  • Current North Carolina Educators license
  • At least three years of successful working experience (required)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures for the Craven County Schools.
  • Have knowledge of and follow all state and federal regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with other assessment personnel, such as speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, and school psychologists, counselors and social workers to determine eligibility for special education.
  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from students cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resources.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
  • Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews as needed.
  • Schedule, conduct and score evaluation assessments and submit to school psychologists for interpreting results.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support ongoing operations of the Exceptional Children Division.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting, and walking, including repetitive motions.
  • Ability to stand in excess of 6 hours.
  • Ability to lift 15-30 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
