Craven County Government Data Entry Specialist II in New Bern, North Carolina

Primary Purpose

Review and accurately input detailed data from an appraisal field card into the appropriate taxpayer record via our Computer Aided Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system. Reports to the Chief Appraiser.

Essential Functions
  • Review and accurately input detailed data from an appraisal field card into the appropriate taxpayer record via our tax appraisal software system.
  • Manage and maintain our property sales questionnaires which entails printing, mailing, and recording returned questionnaires.
  • Manage and maintain the Department of Revenue Annual Sales Ratio Study and Builder's Exclusion applications and assessment for our office.
  • Assist with the Present Use Value Assessment and Taxation for Agricultural, Horticultural, and Forest Lands.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs telephone calls to the proper location. At times, to secure information via telephone, email or personal contact; selects appropriate materials to answer questions and often handles the inquiries independently for the Division.
  • Handles confidential or sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
  • Processes correspondence, memoranda, notes, minutes, reports, or other materials; reviews work for compliance with instructions, spelling, punctuation, and basic grammar; proofreads final copies of materials.
  • Reviews and verifies records and reports for correct information; processes documents based on review and verification; files and retrieves materials; performs periodic follow-up activities. Requests information using standardized forms; compiles information requiring the selection of data from well-established sources.
  • Maintains activity records and files; initiates appropriate follow-up or further action based on the status of office, fiscal or program activity.
  • Assist with special meetings and activities for the Division.
  • Operates copy machine.
  • Distribute Real Estate Listing Forms for annual listing period to the appropriate appraiser.
  • Complete Property Tax Listing and Assessing training through UNC School of Government
Minimum Education and Experience

Associates Degree in Business Administration or related field. Office support, data entry and processing, and real estate experience preferred.

Additional Information
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • May be required to serve during times of disaster.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of data input, processing and output.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of the hardware and software utilized.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to be tactful and courteous.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to input data or word process with accuracy at the speed required.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
  • Ability to compile routine information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and other employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Must possess visual acuity to prepare figures and data, operate a computer, and proof work.
