The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Aging and Disability Services Division is currently recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 3 (PN3) in Las Vegas. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following program: Desert Regional Center - Intermediate Care Facility (DRC-ICF).
The Incumbent will serve as the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) at the DRC-ICF. The ICF serves Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities or related conditions. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) Program is regulated and licensed by Nevada's Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance. The ICF provides health and rehabilitative residential services to persons and must meet CMS Appendix J Tags and Nevada Chapter 1600. Appendix J includes complying with the Federal Conditions of Participation in eight areas, including management, client protection, facility staffing, active treatment services, client behavior, facility practices, health care services, physical environment and dietetic services. Incumbents serve as the Infection prevention/infection control nurse, psych clinic coordinator, TB program coordinator. The PN3 will be responsible for direct supervision of the departments Psychiatric Nurse 2 and the Licensed Practical Nurse 3. Standard work hours are 8am - 5pm, evenings, weekends and holidays may be required. An emergency phone will be provided and may receive phone calls evenings and weekends. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Notes
A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
