APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY - $50,153.76 to $73,309.68 PAY GRADE: 29

The Position

Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.

This position is for a Legal Secretary 2 located in Las Vegas. The incumbent will act as a judicial secretary to Appeals Officer (AO) responsible for scheduling duties including reset dates, notices, stacked and time certain hearings. This position also provides skilled legal clerical support, creating and monitoring all court correspondence, pleadings, motions, orders, stipulations, application and decisions for AO signature. The Legal Secretary 2 will distinguish priorities and route files to the appropriate courtroom, monitor court reporters and interpreters, and note all changes in the daily calendar. The LS2 acts as AO liaison to the public, attorneys, laymen, and employer representatives. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Some positions require incumbents to be a notary public.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
