The Position
Conservation Aids assist professional staff in a variety of projects involving the conservation and preservation of the State's natural resources.
PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-007, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2025. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is responsible for assisting with operations at the Las Vegas State Conservation Nursery. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the propagation of plants, shrubs and trees for conservation plantings and for sale at the nursery. General duties include watering, weeding, seeding, planting, pruning, culling, sorting and organizing containerized plantings. Maintenance tasks, such as irrigation repairs and landscaping work, may be assigned. This position works with walk-in customers, providing assistance in plant identification, selection, and loading. Light clerical work, such as copying, record keeping, and filing, may also be assigned. Work tasks will sometimes be performed in the presence of inmates from the Conservation Camp program who provide labor at the nursery. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school and one year of experience in resource conservation projects or wildlife management projects such as assisting with creel census, surveys, identifying fish and wildlife species, vegetation management or similar work; OR six months of experience as a Conservation Aid II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Notes
Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions, camping in remote, primitive locations.Special Requirements
