Overview Application Engineer needed in the Netherlands JBT is a globally operating multinational for the food processing industry and our head office is in Chicago, USA. The position of Application Engineer is based in our Food & Dairy Systems business where we develop, build, supply and maintain machines and systems for the longer shelf life and (aseptic) filling of foods and drinks in consumer packaging. Our head office is located in Amsterdam, but our machines and systems are installed worldwide in the dairy and beverage industry. We are a business that operates in a knowledge-intensive and dynamic environment and our customers are the largest players in the FMCG market. Our aseptic product line is divided into 2 main groups: Processing and Aseptic bottle filling. This vacancy is for Aseptic bottle filling where our machines have an excellent reputation, the brand is well known in the market and we have a strong market presence. Our ambition is to grow this part of our business over the coming years but in order to assist this growth we are looking for reinforcement for Sales support and that is where the need for an Application Engineer comes in. You will report directly into our Global Product Line Director for Aseptic Systems and have a dotted line to the in Amsterdam based Engineering Managers. Responsibilities A day in the life of our Application Engineer … You are ultimately responsible in the quotation phase for the selection of a solution that matches a customer's request. A customer might have a question relating to either a new piece of machinery or a retrofit project and your expertise will be used to ensure the right technical specifications of the equipment. Based on the chosen solutions, cost price calculations are made and quotations are issued. The contract value of projects can vary anywhere between €100K to € 2.5 million. You will work as an intermediary between Engineering and Sales and these sales could be anywhere in the world! Together with Sales you will be responsible to understand the true needs of the customer by asking relevant questions in order to qualify the potential opportunity and supply them with the right equipment. You’ll analyse with Sales customer requests and look for as many standard solutions as possible, providing the sales team with information on price, specific performances and any preconditions. Using your super planning and organisation skills you will also provide technical content for quotations, order confirmations and contracts. Sometimes you might need to come up with a non-standard solution, assess them and build on them with our specialists. Ultimately arriving at solutions with an estimate of the required "special" efforts and risks (hours and costs) for sales and the customer. There is some administration involved in this role as together with sales you are responsible for the entire file management to get from quotation, to contract and to order execution. Although your role will be active in the field as you participate in customer visits, negotiations and technical application meetings. This may involve you giving customer presentations (within JBT and at customer location), where you as our Application Engineer go deeper into the technology behind our products. Qualifications What we would like to see on your resume … Ideally a Bachelor’s degree in (electrical, industrial, chemical, mechanical, energy or food engineering, food science) or related experience in a similar role Excellent knowledge of office packages and the ability to read drawings and translate them into new solutions To have had some experience working in an international environment communicating across multiple cultures would be great as JBT is a Global business, and if you have worked with food processing equipment that would be even better! Ideally we would like you to have worked with application/system documentations things like quotes, contracts, price list and knowledge sharing systems Strong communicate skills are needed as you will clearly communicate with international and local JBT stakeholders Good knowledge of English language is essential; speaking Dutch or if you have a willingness to learn Dutch is an advantage. Being located in the Netherlands with a willingness to travel around 35% of the time a must!
