The Manager, Security is responsible for the Security Supervisors, Training division, and Parking & ID division. This position will be responsible for the management and operation of security personnel and the enforcement of all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the effective and consistent safety and security of all employees, patients, medical staff and students, as well as general public at large, etc. building, grounds and traffic at designated shift of duties.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Security at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Evaluates and provides guidance and counseling to improve performance for Supervisors, and Sr Officers.

  • Manages and exercises authority over all security operations, access control, and behaviors.

  • Responsible for the staffing and scheduling of security personnel. Communicates directives as issued by the Network VP of Security.

  • Performs and assigns executive details, deliveries and special events.

  • Investigates and works with Risk Management to handle theft, damage, lost and found, injuries and documents all security incidents occurring on the shift.

  • Responds to all calls and codes for security and ensures that security personnel carry out their specific duties and responsibilities.

  • Investigates with Risk Management all incidents of stolen property occurring on Hackensack University Medical Center property during the shift; takes action to locate, and completes and submits all reports through proper channels.

  • Oversees security department budget for facility; coordinates and completes payroll as assigned.

  • Conducts on call assignment for the department as directed by the Network VP of Security and can represent on behalf of the Network VP of Security as dictated.

  • Conducts risk assessments for the department and organization.

  • Handles disciplinary actions and performance improvement process with Employee Relations.

  • Responsible for training high risk areas of the medical center with non-violent crisis intervention training. Coordinates workplace violence training sessions on awareness and security measures with nursing units as directed by the Network VP of Security. Responsible for training of new hires and mandatory yearly in-service training.

  • Represents the Security department at monthly meetings as directed by the Network VP of Security.

  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

  • Chair or committee member of the Workplace Violence Committee. Conducts quarterly meetings and annual risk assessment. Compile WPV reports based on data from OneLink Reports. Evaluate annual effectiveness.

  • Develop, educate, and maintain department policy and procedure manual as directed by the security council.

  • Makes recommendations for medical center policies to assure a safe and secure environment.

  • Educates staff and implements policies effectively.

  • Maintain knowledge of Emergency Operation Plan procedures. Ensures that Emergency Operation Plan is successfully executed in the event of an emergency, including educating staff and ensuring implementation of relevant policies.

  • Conducts quarterly security surveys and makes recommendations as needed.

  • Oversees the Security Management plan. Conducts annual review, identifies improvements, and sets goals for the following year.

  • Provides and reports quarterly dashboards to the medical center safety committee. Plans and establishes a protective and preventive security program.

  • Reviews existing security systems and monitors changes in technology to enhance or improve security operations.

  • Provides effective leadership, chairs required meetings, maintains documentation, and uses performance improvement techniques to achieve and maintain measurable gains in the security of the medical center.

  • Interacts with local, county and state law enforcement agencies, local, county and state emergency response agencies (as needed), NJHA, CE Healthcare Coalition, NJDOH.

  • Actively participates at the Meridian Security Council. Provides data and reports as requested.

  • Oversees security team in responding to fire drills, performing fire watches, and performing day-to-day responsibilities for fire department inspections

  • Oversees the operational supervision of the parking program. Including oversight of complaints, revenue collection, inventory and vehicle tracking, staffing levels, and management.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years managerial experience or equivalent supervisory hospital security or law enforcement experience.

  • Requires leadership skills, judgment, creativity, and comprehensive knowledge.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field ensures ability to respond to code situations when necessary.

  • Problem solving and effective decision making skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to delegate work accordingly.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. and stand a minimum of 8 hours a day.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :

  • Ability to work in a fast paced working environment.

  • Strong communication skills, ability to multitask, and work independently.

Licenses and Certifications Required :

  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred :

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Instructor Certification.

  • CPR/First Aid Instructor.
