Central Garden & Pet Company Senior Maintenance Manager in Neptune City, New Jersey

Description

We are seeking a results-oriented Senior Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our maintenance program. The ideal candidate will be a skilled leader with a strong understanding of maintenance practices and a proven ability to manage staff and resources effectively.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
  • Supervise and provide guidance to a team of maintenance mechanics specializing in plastics processing equipment.
  • Monitor the performance of maintenance mechanics, as well as third party contractors and service providers.
  • Assign work tasks, set priorities, and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
  • Consistently maintain inventory of tools, materials, and equipment, ensuring their availability for repairs.
  • Train and develop the skills of the maintenance team members.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, machinery, identify maintenance needs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
  • Evaluate the condition of equipment and systems, identify potential issues, and recommend repairs or replacements.
  • Responsible for knowing all parts of the injection molding process including, but not limited to, set-up and tear down, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance and workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Generate reports on maintenance performance including key performance indicators (KPIs), downtime, and costs.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and new technologies related to maintenance management.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to the management team regarding maintenance strategies, improvements, and cost-saving opportunities.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field (often preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a maintenance leadership role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and optimizing maintenance programs.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance principles and practices, including preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • In-depth knowledge of various manufacturing equipment and their maintenance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management, inventory control, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA).
  • Ability to analyze maintenance data to identify trends, root causes of equipment failures, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of maintenance technicians.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, engineering)
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor and/or Manager or similar role within a manufacturing environment. Preferred injection molding and/or extrusion.
  • Solid understanding of technical aspects of blueprint reading, hydraulics, pneumatics, and schematics.
  • Required knowledge in plastics processing machinery, including extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, and related systems.
  • Demonstrate strong management skills, drive, and a willingness to "roll up their sleeves" to get the job done.
  • Effective team building skills, proven ability to deliver results, strong ability to multi-task and prioritize, and the ability to effectively manage conflict, and maintain strong employee relations.
  • Effective PC skills required (Microsoft Office).
  • High visibility on the production floor.
