It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work remotely for three (3) or more days a week and will share a hoteling workspace when working onsite. Work location is subject to change based on business needs.

Senior Developer, COBOL

About This Role:

First National Bank is seeking a talented, self-driven and versatile individual to join our Credit Card Delivery Team. As part of a small technology delivery team practicing Agile and the Kanban methodology, you'll work closely with peer developers, testers, a systems analyst and scrum master to provide technical expertise and direction in supporting a variety of software solutions that span differing technologies. Following Agile practices, you will be an active participant in progressive elaboration, refinement and estimation sessions as well as daily standups. You will develop, configure, test, implement and support in-house COBOL applications and dependent components, with the goal to meet the expected value and align with customer expectations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in newer languages such as Java or .NET to help us restructure and modernize our applications. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our digital transformation.

Job Duties

Participate in all Agile ceremonies. Collaborate with Solution Architect to create or update architectural diagrams as needed. Work with teammates and IT peers to develop, configure, test, implement and support in-house COBOL applications. This includes providing on-going support to our internal business units who utilize these software applications as part of their daily operations. May be required to assist running a QA batch testing environment. Provide on-going support in the form of application functional knowledge, support documentation, system monitoring and production support (including off hours and weekend on-call support as necessary). Ensure software remains current, stable and compliant and meets enterprise standards. Use third party quick code utilities such as SAS as a tool for manipulating data in a non-production environment. Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and exercises.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience coding and supporting COBOL applications including prior experience utilizing incident, change, and problem management processes. Experience in:

  • COBOL

  • MVS JCL

  • Mainframe processing systems

  • CICS

Excellent communication skills and a passion for enhancing the customer experience. Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Keen attention to detail with focus on quality. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly and positively. Strong collaboration and mentorship skills.

Additional Preferred Experience (not required)

Experience with large credit card processing systems a plus. Experience running batch processing jobs. Java or other modern language experience to assist modernizing legacy code base. Experience working in an Agile environment. Experience in banking/financial services industry. DevOps and CICD background.
