Position Summary/Description:

UNC Chapel Hill’s Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office ( EOC ) seeks an energetic, self-motivated professional to support the University’s commitment to addressing protected status harassment and discrimination, sexual misconduct, and workplace violence. This individual should be dedicated to promoting a positive and inclusive work and academic environment for all members of the UNC community by working equitably with those identified as victim/survivors and those accused of causing harm. This individual should be a creative problem solver, exhibit excellent judgement in difficult situations, and have the ability to succinctly translate complex policies with nuance and compassion.

The Title IX/Equal Opportunity Report and Response Manager ( RRM ) reports to the Director of Report and Response. This position serves as a primary, neutral point of contact to receive and respond to reports of protected status discrimination and harassment by and against students and employees pursuant to all applicable University policies, including the Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment and Related Misconduct and the Policy on Prohibited Sexual Harassment Under Title IX, as well as reports of workplace violence involving University employees as defined by the University’s Workplace Violence Policy. In collaboration with the University’s EOC staff and units throughout campus including Student Affairs, the Office of Human Resources, and UNC Police, this position will direct students and employees to appropriate campus and community resources, advise students and employees of the processes for responding to complaints, and serve as a resource to students and employees throughout the investigation and resolution of complaints, in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as related to complaints of harassment or discrimination.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, social work, or other relevant discipline preferred. In addition, experience with conducting complaint investigations or implementing grievance procedures is preferred.

Essential Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline required. A minimum three years of progressively responsible work experience in student affairs or a related field and demonstrated knowledge of government regulations and civil rights statutes, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The successful candidate will have experience providing trauma-informed care and services. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Working knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ) and the North Carolina State Human Resources Act.

Ability to understand the needs of the University and to work collaboratively in a wide array of situations with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Knowledge of student development best practices and a strong desire to provide a supportive environment for students.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy and excellent judgment and to act calmly and objectively.

Superior interpersonal and organizational skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate succinctly and with diverse stakeholders.

Ability to work in-person.
