Position Summary/Description:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Director of Finance oversees all aspects of finance for The Graduate School, working in collaboration with school and university leadership. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Administration, the director is responsible for direction, reporting and management of all fund sources.

This position will also provide fiscal oversight of all student funding programs (fellowships, travel awards, etc.) administered by The Graduate School. The Director of Finance and Director of Fellowships will ensure continued excellence and growth and provide leadership, policy guidance, and fiscal oversight of fellowships and funding managed by the unit. The director will also work closely with school leadership to determine annual tuition remission allocations and in-state tuition awards for academic programs. The Director of Finance will represent The Graduate School on the Tuition and Fee Advisory Taskforce.

This position will be responsible for providing supervision/management for the finance team, including facilitating workflows, providing feedback and assessment to staff members, and applying management and quality improvement approaches and practices.

Education and Experience:

-Must be able to provide leadership within the unit and campus community.

-Demonstrated ability to provide good judgment, integrity, and sound business decisions

-Knowledge of human resources policy and procedure, and ability to oversee multiple types of personnel activities.

-Experience working in higher education preferred.

Essential Skills:

-Demonstrated ability to effectively lead administrative functions, manage staff, and coordinate and implement institutional change.

-Excellent organizational, communication, and management skills along with good judgment and discretion in dealing with a range of sensitive and confidential matters.

-Proven ability to effectively communicate complex administrative and financial processes and practices to diverse audiences, including senior university administration.
