Position Summary/Description:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Finance and Business, the Accounting Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the central school finance office, including supervising the accounting staff in the office. This position independently develops, monitors and reports on School and Foundation budgets and expenses, including budget control, budget reporting and endowment reporting. The Accounting Manager prepares financial statements for the Public Health Foundation, Inc. and serves as the primary point of contact for the foundation’s annual external audit. This position also acts as a subject matter expert for the ConnectCarolina (Peoplesoft) financial modules and InfoPorte.
Education and Experience:
Previous experience supervising or managing employees including hiring, assigning work, setting and ensuring that deadlines are met and evaluating performance.
Prior experience in a fast-paced higher education or public sector setting.
Knowledge of and experience with accounting policies and procedures regarding various types of accounting including but not limited to contracts and grants, foundations, state or overhead accounts.
Advanced level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Essential Skills:
Proven ability to effectively communicate complex administrative and financial processes and practices to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
Experience understanding and applying accounting principles and practices.
Experience performing financial analysis and/or summarizing results in both written and verbal form.
Experience performing account reviews and audits.
Excellent communication skills and customer-friendly focus.
Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
