Summary You will serve as a PHYSICIST in the PHYSICS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL. Responsibilities You will support Electro-Optics, Optics, and electronics course sequence laboratories. You will serve as laser custodian for the use of lasers in departmental teaching. You will maintain fabrication facility electronic test and fabrication equipment. You will test and calibrate proto-type electronic assemblies using standard electronic test equipment following routine testing procedures Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Oversee optical microscopy and SEM laboratories. 2) Independently design, fabricate, and test proto-type special purpose experimental apparatus used in research and general laboratory instrumentation. 3) Process all accountable property receipts, transfers, and excess accountable property and e-waste material. 4) Utilize electronic fabrication techniques, electronic theory, electronic testing techniques, and computers related to electronic design and testing. Physical Demands:Physical activity includes walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and lifting. The ability to perform unassisted lifting to 40 lbs. is required. Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in a lab and involves risks associated with exposure to hazardous chemicals and high voltages in electronic equipment. The work also requires exposure to potential laser and high noise hazards. This exposure may require the use of personal protective equipment such as chemical safety goggles, protective clothing, and/or rubber gloves. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement.
