Naval Air Systems Command MATERIALS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in Naval Air Station San Diego, California

Summary You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Chemical Processes Branch, Materials Engineering Department, and the MRO Engineering Office of the FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. You will provide professional materials/chemical engineering services and technical/managerial services through execution of in-service engineering responsibilities on assigned weapons systems and related equipment. The duty location of this position is Naval Air Station, San Diego, CA. Responsibilities You will review, evaluate and select chemical processes operations and processes in use of other Depots, DoD activities, industrial plants, and Research and Development centers. You will provide engineering requirements for prototype rework/refurbishment of various aerospace components and related hardware to ensure needed quality for the intended application. You will determine and/or develop anodizing and electroplating removal/finishing parameters such as temperature and agitation settings for chemical stripping solutions. You will write and maintain specifications including local process specifications (LPS) and special rework/processing instructions, and project reports. You will review and evaluate chemical process operations and processes for incorporation as a recommended process/operation on applicable projects. You will evaluate shops and contractor produced parts/components for conformance to engineering drawing/specification requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Using chemical processes in production shops for cleaning, stripping, and plating methods/processes in the rework of components for military aircraft and ground support equipment; 2) Anodizing and electroplating solution processes (i.e. conversion coating of aluminum, chrome plating, nickel plating, cadmium plating, etc) and other chemical processes used for metals finishing of aircraft component; 3) Conducting research and development of chemical processes and methods; and 4) Providing engineering requirements and technical support for assigned weapons systems and related equipment.
