Northwestern State University is seeking qualified applicants for the Director of Business Operations for NSU Athletics. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to engage in productive working relationships with all members of the university community. It is essential for the successful candidate to demonstrate organizational and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting in a governmental entity is preferred. A bachelor's degree in a business or related field is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Business or related field preferred.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Computer skills including ability to utilize Microsoft products and demonstrate experience and ability to learn and utilize accounting software.

  • Experience working for a state governmental institution preferred.

Job Concepts

  • Develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures to ensure adequate internal controls for business operations and work toward improved operational efficiency to meet overall goals of the department.

  • Develop, implement & monitor all athletic budgets including, university funding, student fees, grants and non-profit private fundraising. Submit these budgets for approval to university administration and governing boards for approval. Monitor and adjust budgets as necessary throughout the fiscal year.

  • Serve as liaison with NSU Business Affairs - Review and approve all requests for travel and procurement to ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.

  • Preparing annual financial reports for all audits and other reporting requirements. Includes NCAA Agreed Upon Procedures, Foundation Audit, Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act, Southland Conference Financial Reports, Annual Budget Reports to NSU and the LA Board of Regents, and any other financial reporting requesting by internal or external entities.

  • Training of new employees, coaches and staff, in business operations and financial affairs. Constant education through staff meetings, email messages and sports budget meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
