Northwestern State University's Office of Counseling and Career Services is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Counselor/Instructor. A master's degree in counseling or related fields with licensure is preferred. Applicants who are eligible to begin working on professional licensure may be considered based on experience in counseling. We prefer applicants with a working knowledge of the developmental issues of college students, who have demonstrated experience in a professional counseling and development setting, possess strong communication and problem-solving skills, team working skills and have demonstrated the ability to provide programs and services to meet the needs of counseling clients and the student population.

Minimum Qualifications
Position Requirements:
A master's degree in counseling (or related field) and professional licensure is preferred and at minimum PLPC status attained.
Job Concepts
Provide counseling services to university students, faculty and staff experiencing stress-related difficulties, life crises and/or other personal difficulties impending their development via individual, and couple, group counseling.
Provide support to graduate counseling interns.
Provide outreach services to residence halls, clubs, and organizations to the campus and Natchitoches community and supervise student-run outreach organizations and programming (SWAT, Peer Mentors).
Serve on a counseling crisis team to assist students and others in the university community as necessary.
Serve on rotation, to provide on-call assistance to students involved in crisis situations, personal difficulties, suicide attempts, sexual assault, etc. after office hours.
Serve on university committees as designated.
Instruct University Experience 1000.
Maintain contact with appropriate community agencies (Mental Health, private hospitals, churches, etc.) as collaborative resources for students.
Evaluate counseling services and outreach activities as required for SACS accreditation.
Administer and interpret standardized tests for career and personal exploration and development, as allowed by licensing board.
Assist with the planning and implementation of special activities for the Office of Counseling and Career Services.
Work with faculty/staff/administration in developing services to address NSU student needs.
Develop appropriate paperwork for documentation of counseling services to each client and supervise the maintenance of confidential counseling files.
Maintain professional licensure, certification, and membership in appropriate professional organizations.
Engage in other duties as assigned by supervisor.
