Lasalle Corrections Company, LLC Assistant Warden I in Natchez, Mississippi

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, coordinate, and direct the total administrative programmatic activities of the department.

Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, and implement organizational and personnel changes as approved by the Warden, and coordinate with the Human Resources Manager prior to implementation.

Develop departmental budgets; monitor and control expenditures.  Review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.

Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting security.  Coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with overall facility objectives.

Direct procedures and practices relating to the training and counseling of detainees and security of staff and detainees; maintain constant vigilance of employees and detainees through staff assignments to ensure that policies, rules and regulations are being adhered to, and that none are violated.

Provide, through administrative staff assignments, proper number of officers, and other personnel for all administrative and security functions; oversee preparation of work and other related reports on detainees for the classification committee and permanent record of detainees showing progress and estimating rehabilitative prospects.

Monitor staff selection process of potential employees to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, LaSalle Correctional and state regulations, and select qualified applicants to fill vacancies as needed.

Oversee the direction of disciplinary and grievance procedures affecting detainees.

Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.  Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.

Maintain accountability of staff detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

1-2 years' experience in a correctional setting is preferred.

Long periods of continuous standing and walking per shift 

Frequent periods of sitting for 30 minutes or more

Repetitive climbing of stairs to reach the assigned areas and working at heights

Occasional kneeling, squatting, and bending to perform "pat" or "strip" searches

Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting

Occasionally responding to altercations and occasional restraining and securing assaultive offenders

Ability to respond rapidly to potential security and/or medical codes/issues

Frequent transferrers and transporting offenders by walking or riding in various vehicles such as vans, buses, and other forms of transportation

Continuous periods of operating/driving company vehicles to pick up and transport offenders per shift

Remaining awake and alert while on duty  per shift

Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50-100 lbs

Ability to occasionally withstand direct or indirect exposure to OC spray

Ability to hear an understand verbal communication.  

Continuous sitting per shift

Ability to work continuously on a telephone/computer/scanner/fax/copier or other office equipment per shift with scheduled breaks

Frequent periods of walking and/or standing 

Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs

Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting.
