Amazon Workplace Health and Safety Risk Manager, WHS Risk in Nashville, Tennessee

Are you a safety professional that enjoys the technical side of organizational safety risk management? The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Risk Manager will be responsible for supporting the development and management of the WHS Risk Program.

The WHS Risk Manager will partner with various operational and support teams across all business units, including Operations, Safety Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME), Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Global Mobility, Global Road Safety, WHS Design and Construction, Operations Engineering, WW Design Engineering, and other engineering, design, and risk management stakeholders. The individual will be required to facilitate and complete risk assessments and provide training to various teams and individuals on the methodology and execution of operational safety risk assessments.

The WHS Risk Manager will participate in serious injury and near miss investigations to ensure identified risks are incorporated into applicable risk assessments and risk controls are identified and comprehensively defined and evaluated for effectiveness.

The individual will also help to ensure stakeholders from responsible support teams are engaged in the development of risk mitigation solutions and ensuring corrective actions are appropriately defined and reflected in organizational safety risk assessments. The WHS Risk Manager will also be responsible for reviewing change management (CM) requests to ensure WHS risks mitigation controls are identified and incorporated into new process changes.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Completion of comprehensive safety risk assessments

  2. Work with project teams inside WHS to ensure RA’s are completed and baseline RA’s are used and updated

  3. Work with project teams outside WHS to ensure RA’s are used and shared and that sites receive information on hazards, risks, PMV’s, training, etc. for new equipment being deployed

  4. Deep dive SI and SNM incidents and ensure failure modes and root causes have been identified, appropriate support stakeholders are engaged, and action plans are assigned and tracked to completion

  5. Assist with the continued development, implementation and management of the Global WHS Risk Management Program.

  6. Interface with engineering teams to ensure risks mitigation opportunities are defined, incorporated into future state equipment and processes, and required retrofits are made where appropriate.

  7. Establish Leading Indicators for WHS Risks and provide consolidated and timely reporting for the organization.

  8. Utilize technology to improve and simplify work, data, and programs.

  9. Assist with defining business requirements from key stakeholders for the Amazon Electronic Risk Assessment Tool (Austin)

  10. Travel (up to 50%)

About the team

The incumbent must be an effective communicator and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing and possess excellent program management skills. This individual needs to be an expert in the completion and facilitation of safety risk assessments and root cause analysis incident investigations. They must also have an applied understanding of global safety regulations, codes and harmonized consensus standards.

Role involves travel 30 - 50% of the time.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of experience delivering cross function projects

  • 5+ years of experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams

  • 5+ years of experience completing risk assessments and developing risk mitigations solutions

  • Experience in complex problem solving and working in an environment with tight schedules

  • Experience using data and metrics to define and develop business improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end program delivery and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent

  • Experience defining organizational program requirements based on regulations, industry standards and business data

  • Bachelor degree in Safety, Engineering or a related field

  • Written/verbal communication skills

  • Data management and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent

  • Master's degree or equivalent

  • 10+ years of experience managing, analyzing, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Masters degree in Safety, Engineering, or a related field

  • CSP certification

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and CFR

  • Working knowledge of NRTL, CE, ISO, ANSI and NFPA

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
