We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our North America Food Safety and Compliance team as Principal Manager, External Engagement and Trust. This role will position Amazon as a trusted leader in food safety, enhancing customer trust and product safety while mitigating regulatory risks. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent communication skills, strong customer obsession, and a track record of operating in a dynamic environment. You must also be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, be willing to take the lead in solving cross-functional business problems and feel motivated by a fast-paced, start-up environment where having an “ownership mindset” is critical to success.
Key job responsibilities
Work cross-functionally with internal (e.g., business, compliance, public policy and legal) and external partners (e.g., regulatory agencies, industry and consumer groups) to understand safety, customer trust and regulatory risks applicable to Amazon’s Grocery business.
Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on applicable food safety regulations (e.g., FSMA, Food Code), emerging issues and industry benchmarks.
Manage decision-making with a data driven approach; design and monitor important safety, customer trust, and compliance metrics.
Design the food safety external engagement and trust strategy for the organization, generate a clear vision for the team and effectively deliver for customers against it.
Utilize strong judgement in prioritizing and balancing risk management and customer trust concerns with organizational needs.
Exhibit leadership to meet a high bar.
Outcomes are improved customer trust metrics, reduced regulatory risks and enhanced industry reputation.
A day in the life
In this role, you will leverage your food safety expertise to develop and implement a strategy for external engagement and brand trust. You will work with various internal and external stakeholders to identify and rectify key safety, customer trust, and compliance issues. This fast-paced role requires a balance of strategic thinking and analytical skills.

The North American Food Safety Team designs, enhances, and governs food safety programs that drive safety, customer trust and compliance to support scalable business growth. We collaborate across stakeholder groups to drive food safety standards, culture, and trust. We leverage metrics and technology for continuous improvement. Our initiatives ensure the safety of products for millions of customers.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
10+ years experience interpreting and applying legislation and policy
Experience in Food Safety & Compliance
5+ years responding to or working closely with regulators
5+ years experience working cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g. business, public policy) and external associations
Program management experience
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated track record of building successful third-party advocacy and partnerships
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to design and interpret meaningful KPIs and metrics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $214,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
