Amazon Senior Controls Integration Engineer, Worldwide Design and Engineering in Nashville, Tennessee

WWDE is looking for a Senior Controls Integration Engineer to be part of our global team to deliver the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support.

The Senior Controls Integration Engineer will be part of a full project life cycle and responsible for successful development and delivery of system designs to Operations and Maintenance customers. You will serve as a liaison between Fulfillment Center Operations and Maintenance, our Advanced Concept and Firm Engineering teams, and Amazon Fulfillment Technology and Operations Engineering partners.

This role will require the ability to build relationships across a cross functional team capturing and synthesizing the voice of the customer. You will partner with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our fulfillment and distribution systems. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization, to design approval, and finally through turnover to Operations and Maintenance customers. You will be our suppliers’ primary point of technical contact for your projects. This role will also provide proper training and support to facility controls technicians on system troubleshooting and preventive maintenance to focus on the system performance improvement and optimization.

You are able to take the lead on the development, implementation, and delivery of complex system designs in ambiguous and complex problem spaces. You integrate systems for safety, security, stability, and efficiency. You participate in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs.

Key job responsibilities

  • Write control specification documents for deployment of system designs.

  • Integrate control system products and partner with suppliers and customers.

  • Commissioning: working with all the stakeholders to optimize the system to predefined success criteria to ensure smooth handover to customers.

  • PLC troubleshooting and diagnostic.

  • Own and develop controls commissioning and testing tasks for systems.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance engineering, testing, and operational best practices within the team.

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and testing of both existing and prospective engineering solutions and systems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control specifications and training materials.

  • Lead incident follow-up, root cause analysis, and documentation.

  • Engage in industrial engineering design for both existing and new material handling systems across our global network.

  • Ensure strict adherence to all Health & Safety (H&S) protocols and actively contribute to the identification and mitigation of potential H&S risks.

  • Foster effective relationships by partnering with various stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related area.

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, implementing, and supporting PLC-based control systems.

  • 7+ years in designing systems, emphasizing design patterns, reliability, and scalability of both new and existing systems.

  • 7+ years of experience programming with modern PLC software.

  • Experience diagnosing PLC control level issues, particularly with Allen-Bradley systems.

  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communications protocols.

  • Experience in both hardware and software aspects of Industrial Control Systems. Experience working in a team environment.

  • Experience with control systems and software development life-cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.

  • Experience working in customer-facing environments.

  • Willingness to travel up to 40% domestically as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master degree in Computer Science or related area.

  • Experienced in managing material-handling-equipment (MHE), including understanding flow dynamics and capacity considerations.

  • Experience with process design and based on Lean Principles.

  • Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, and using statistics and data to solve problems

  • Capital project management skills.

  • Proficiency using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.

  • Design-in-Safety experience
