Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer like you to join our team!

This Senior Controls Engineer is part of Bridgestone’s Corporate Engineering, also known as Process Systems Development (PSD). The PSD team works cross-functionally with safety, production, and plant engineering across all our tire and retread manufacturing site locations in the Americas (North, Central and South). The team also works collaboratively with similar groups from our other poles in the European and Asian regions.

This team manages the full project lifecycle of large capital projects within manufacturing including installation, testing, debugging, commissioning, integrating, and troubleshooting. We are seeking candidates with experience in Controls Engineering to support projects such as new technology evaluation and opportunities for automation.

As a Senior Controls Engineer at Bridgestone, you will take ownership of your projects with a continuous improvement mindset and passion for integrating new products and innovations to a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for leading controls development, design, programming, and implementation of innovative and advanced technology used in our process control systems.

This position is an expert who can support and troubleshoot new systems, legacy systems, and upgrade efforts. The Senior Controls Engineer is also responsible for developing capital improvement project budgets and working on cross-functional teams with teammates from safety, maintenance, engineering, quality, production, and other areas.

This role is tasked with issues of high complexity, high difficulty, and often high urgency. This corporate function supports the production facilities in North, Central, and South America, sometimes requiring unplanned immediate travel, weekend work, and off-shift work.

  • You will:

  • Lead projects or processes of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision.

  • Work in cross-functional teams to implement projects and integrated solutions.

  • Define electrical controls, tasks, scope, and budget.

  • Participate in Risk Assessment, then develop and implement safety design per ANSI B11/ISO 13849 using the PL required.

  • Strong understanding of NFPA-70E electrical code.

  • Design of electrical schematics (AutoCAD E), PLC programming (Rockwell), and HMI solutions (Rockwell and/or Ignition).

  • Execute electrical design, UL508 panel construction, machine installation, programming, and startup of systems.

  • Support continuous improvement/automation activities.

  • Design and install/implement electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes.

  • Support relationships through effective communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Have significant experience in Ladder Logic, Safety PLC programming and HMI design.

  • Experience in Allen Bradley software Studio/RS Logix 500, 5000, RSLOGIX-5, FactoryTalk View Studio SE, ME and RSLinx Classic/OEM.

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose operational support issues from plants.

  • Experience in hardware design: low voltage (<600VAC) Power Distribution, UL 508A Controls Design, VFD sizing and Ethernet/IP Networking Architecture.

  • Experience providing equipment installation oversight, machine commissioning and startup of large-scale equipment.

  • Travel requirements are based on business needs and vary from 33-66%.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or other related degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.

  • 6+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer designing and implementing process controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert in Rockwell Automation products including motion and safety.

  • Experience in control system design and specification.

  • Experience in process electrical design.

  • Experience in Inductive Automation Ignition.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
