Vanderbilt University Research Assistant; Biochemistry (Sanders Lab) in Nashville, Tennessee

Sanders research laboratory is made up of faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in Research and Development

  • Preparation of buffers and reagents

  • Expression and purification of proteins from bacterial and insect cells for structural studies and biophysical characterization

  • Using biophysical methods to characterize interactions of proteins with small molecules

  • Production of DNA vectors for protein expression

  • Writing and updating laboratory protocols

  • Collecting and assembling research data for presentation and/or reports

  • Proper storage and maintenance of protein stocks

  • Participating in weekly meetings to discuss project progress

  • Prioritizing work assignments and completing projects in a timely fashion

  • Lab space maintenance

  • Other tasks as directed by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, or related field is required.

  • Knowledge of microbiology, protein expression and purification is preferred.

  • Previous experience in an academic research laboratory is preferred.

  • Experience with organization, inventory, and record keeping is desired.

  • Knowledge of working with and maintaining laboratory equipment is preferred.

  • Experience in purification of proteins by benchtop and automated chromatographic methods is preferred.
