Position Description

The Metro Public Health Department is seeking a highly qualified Research Analyst with expertise in quantitative data analysis to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive opioid system of care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data collection, cleaning, verification, and an acute awareness of the impact of health disparities on health outcomes. This position will involve ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and meaningful interpretation of data to drive evidence-based decision-making and improve service delivery. May require occasional travel to conduct field research or attend conferences. This role is a critical part of the department’s mission to reduce the impact of the opioid crisis in Nashville and Davidson County. Your work will contribute directly to evidence-based solutions that improve health outcomes and promote equity in our community.

Typical Duties

Data Collection and Management

  • Design and implement robust data collection processes to support opioid system of care initiatives.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address gaps in data collection, ensuring inclusivity and relevance to diverse populations.

  • Maintain strict adherence to data security, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

Data Cleaning and Verification

  • Develop and execute procedures for cleaning, standardizing, and verifying large datasets.

  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies, missing values, or errors to ensure the integrity of datasets.

  • Conduct routine quality checks to maintain high standards of data reliability.

Quantitative Data Analysis

  • Perform advanced statistical analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of opioid care programs and interventions.

  • Use statistical and visualization software (SAS and Tableau) to generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations.

  • Interpret data to identify trends, disparities, and opportunities for system improvement.

Health Disparities and Equity Analysis

  • Analyze data through the lens of health equity to uncover disparities in access, utilization, and outcomes related to opioid care.

  • Provide actionable recommendations to address disparities and enhance the inclusiveness of service delivery.

    Collaboration and Reporting

  • Partner with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to align data initiatives with program goals.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for internal and external audiences, including program managers, policymakers, and community leaders.

  • Participate in grant writing and reporting activities as needed to secure funding and comply with grant requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, or a related field.

Two (2) or more years of experience in quantitative data analysis, preferably in public health or healthcare.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with opioid-related data is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of health disparities and social determinants of health.

  • Experience with large-scale public health data systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Time management skills and handling multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in statistical software (SAS).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

  • Strong skills in data visualization tools (Tableau).

  • Familiarity with data systems, including electronic health records (EHRs) and public health databases.
