Position Description
The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) of Nashville and Davidson County has multiple openings for Public Health nurses. We are looking for licensed Registered Nurse ’s to join our dedicated Preventive Health team of nursing staff who provide services to the public in the following divisions of MPHD:
The Preventive Health Program: MPHD operates three public health care preventive centers to provide a variety of preventive health services to citizens of Davidson County.

Typical Duties
Performs a variety of clinical services, such as immunizations, family planning, pregnancy tests, STD testing, head lice evaluation, and TB skin tests. Family planning component would include offering information about birth control, counseling on pregnancy tests, providing options counseling, and working the women’s health nurse practitioners to work up patients/assist with placement procedures.
Administers services according to protocols.
Teaches, counsels, and makes appropriate referrals for clients.
Documents services provided.
Would float to three preventive health clinics (Lentz, East and Woodbine) for coverage as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing. Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered. Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing preferred.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee. Applicants holding a Registered Nurse license from a state that participates in the “Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact” may be hired, but must obtain their Tennessee license within thirty (30) days of hire.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment. Possess required competencies upon hiring.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Governments employment-based immigration programs.
