Amazon Air Cargo, within AIR, is looking for an experienced, self-starter Technical Business Development Manager (BDM) to drive adoption of our Air Cargo offering. This is an exciting opportunity to drive exponential growth by building and scaling global partnerships. The role will be responsible for identifying and creating new business opportunities, building and maintaining strategic client relationships, and developing effective strategies to meet organizational goals.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record leading new market segment development efforts working across stakeholder teams to develop strategic partnerships. The successful candidate will also possess a business background and subject matter expertise that enables them to drive specific engagement and interaction, as well as a technical understanding that enables them to easily interact with product developers. They should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and work cross-organizationally to build consensus. A track record of helping establish new business via focused incubation mechanisms and then broad partnerships will be important for this role.

As a key team member in this fast growing, exciting space you will have the opportunity to help lead the early market segment development efforts for new services, establish wins with strategic customers, create new partnerships, and then as the business starts to formulate, help drive the growth and shape the future of a service category that will have a significant impact on our customers’ business.

Your responsibilities will include creating a comprehensive go-to-market strategy to help develop the products and/or services for Air Cargo. You will be required to identify early adopters who can help influence the direction, feature set, and pricing of the product, and then drive customer wins in specific market segments. As the business formulates, you will lead efforts to enable sales, involving creating a strong partnership driving global sales pipeline focused on adoption, revenue, and market segment penetration.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all levels of leadership to grow the business by creating new partnerships, leveraging existing relationships, and/or business assets to drive improvements and innovation, and enable distribution of our products and/or services

  • Work on significant, new, and unique business opportunities

  • Represent Amazon Air’s business interests and regularly interact with senior management and potential partners/client’s executives up through the C-level

  • Oversee the most complex relationships and largest business opportunities end-to-end that have broad customer, business, or cross organizational impact

  • Manage complex contract negotiations and complex business requirements; initiate, structure, negotiate, and close new relationships as well as renewals

  • Work with business leaders to analyze market data to identify trends/opportunities, utilize extensive network of relationships with the relevant industry to gather market intelligence, and execute on business development opportunities

  • Develop long-term strategies and influence leadership decisions

  • Contribute to the strategic development of features and functionality that maximize revenue and drive incremental margin from partner/customer agreements

  • Execute the strategic business development plan while working with key internal stakeholders

  • Have a keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness

  • Part builder, part operator, and part general manager; prioritize well, communicate clearly, and understand how to drive a high level of focus

  • Exceed key performance metrics consistently

  • Domestic travel 25% of the time

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

  • 7+ years of professional or military experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level

  • Experience in sales and/or business development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner

  • Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations

  • Experience with air cargo

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $158,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $262,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
