Job Summary and Qualifications

HCA Healthcare is evolving its technology to develop modern data, analytics, and AI products. We call this cutting-edge platform the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN). It is designed to accept data from virtually any source, build data products within our Lakehouse architecture, and deliver those data products to internal customers via classic database connectors, APIs, and streaming mechanisms all on the Google Cloud Platform.

Core to this evolution is an enterprise team of leaders and experts working with the data product management teams embedded in our businesses, the Advanced Technology group, and the cloud infrastructure teams in our IT organization. This enterprise team is responsible for overseeing the strategies, architectures, ontologies, enablement, governance, delivery, support, and value creation of the data products built on the platform and the platform itself.

This role is the technical owner of the shared architecture for Data Products built in HIN and the federated data architecture for HCA. This person provides technical leadership, design, direction, and assurance for practices and patterns of data product design and engineering. This person is responsible for ensuring HIN architecture is designed and implemented in accordance with security, responsible AI, privacy, and corporate policies. This person owns the federated data model for HIN & HCA and works closely with the HIN Principal Architect for Data Modeling to design, develop, and govern the federated data model. Under the guidance of the Director, Enable & Governance, this person implements mechanisms to meet HIN strategy and HCA policy goals. This person partners closely with Data Product Architects to provide guidance and support on data product architecture.

This is not a people manager role.

This role is preferred to be located in Nashville, TN, but willing to discuss the option of remote work.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Design and direct the technical architecture for the HIN platform in accordance with the HIN vision

  • Design and develop HIN architecture for security, responsible AI, privacy, and corporate policies

  • Design and evangelize governed patterns and practices for building data products within HIN

  • Collaborate with Information Protection and Security and ITG cloud teams to ensure the appropriate protections are in place for the HIN platform and data products built within HIN, and establish consumer friendly access patterns

  • Own, design, develop, and govern the federated data architecture that links HIN and other HCA enterprise data systems

  • Own, design, develop, and govern the federated data model for HIN and HCA in partnership with the HIN Principal Architect for Data Modeling

  • Implement mechanisms to meet HIN strategies and HCA policies

  • Build productive working relationships with product and technical experts across the company

  • Provide hands on support to data product architects as a technical leader of HIN

  • Review and recommend existing and emerging tools and technologies that accomplish HIN goals

  • Occasional Travel: The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.

Education & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in progressing technical roles

  • 5+ proven experience in product architecture

  • Experience leading and managing complex enterprise architecture designs

  • Experience architecting modern products in the cloud

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Required)

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Preferred)

  • Open to alternative degrees mixed with technical experience that heavily support architecture skills

Licenses, Certifications & Training:

  • Google Cloud or similar cloud technology training and/or experience (Required)

  • Data Governance and Management Training/Experience (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

  • Knowledge of modern architecture practices for enterprise data products, including but not limited to governance, standardization, normalization, data quality, and metadata.

  • Knowledge of modern architecture practices for ideating, developing, and deploying digital products.

  • Knowledge of Google’s cloud technology as it relates to digital product development, data management, artificial intelligence, and analytics.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities
