Job Summary and Qualifications

The Biostatistician II drives improvement in clinical quality, patient safety, and business efficiency using clinical and financial data and analytical tools. The Biostatistician II, in collaboration with other members of the Clinical Services Group, designs analytical protocols, completes analysis, develops conclusions and makes recommendations to improve care, patient safety, reduce risks, determine program effectiveness, and determine return on investment. The Biostatistician II will also develop research plans and business cases for the implementation of programs, analyzing their economic impact and the return on investment. This position will also provide consultation and guidance with analysis projects, quantitative data displays, reports, and presentations that create constructive tension and compel action on the part of facility, division, group, corporate leadership and staff.

The Biostatistician II will support both the CSG Health Sciences and Population Health Research portfolio as well as Clinical Operations Analytics by applying complex data management and a variety of intermediate statistical techniques to promote the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data arising from key stakeholders. The Biostatistician II will serve as a subject-matter specialist who actively participates in the development and implementation of research requirements that will serve and enhance both the operational and research needs of the organization. The Biostatistician II will participate in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations which summarize data analysis results, including detailed statistical methods. Ideal candidates have a comprehensive understanding of healthcare-based research and are self-motivated, attentive to details, able to “connect the dots” among different projects and studies, and be flexible.

Key Competencies and Responsibilities:

Data & Reporting

•Functions as lead statistician on investigator initiated studies and projects...

•Writes intermediate to advanced SQL to data mine, extract and model data from multiple databases (Teradata, GCP, SQL, etc.).

•Determines data quality or completeness; Effectively communicates gaps to clinical or ITG stakeholders.

•Efficiently and effectively aggregate and clean data from multiple sources to prepare data for manipulation, analysis, and visualizations.

•Develops actionable reports, report narratives and data visualizations that identify areas of opportunity and help drive clinical quality at scale. Primary department platforms are Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, and PowerBI.

•Deep understanding of internal datasets (clinical, financial, operational) and external datasets (CMS, various registries, etc.)

•Accurately interprets clinical stakeholder data needs and appropriately craft requirements and project plan to satisfy requests.

Statistical Analytics & Research Protocol

•Collaborates with research teams to design studies, perform sample size/power calculations and stratification/randomization of studies.

•Provides expert advice and consultation on clinical development program strategy and tactics. Plans statistical design for research studies, conducts statistical analysis and reporting for these analyses.

•Prepares analysis plans including sampling methodologies, data collection, and comprehensive research review.

•Writes detailed specifications based on executive or clinical stakeholder requirements.

•Leverages large datasets to build complex statistical models, programs and performs statistical testing. Primary statistical language is R.

•Providing statistical insight in the interpretation and discussion of study results and providing statistical contribution to the integrated clinical study reports and publications.

•Identify patterns, variability and/or outliers from raw data.

•Interprets and presents results in a clear and meaningful way to executive level audiences.

•Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications based on executive or clinical stakeholder requirements.

•Delivers rapid turnaround analytics requests in support of hospital, division or group operations.

•Understanding and applying regulatory guidelines/developments and industry standards/best practices on statistics and relevant programming languages.

•Writing the statistical portion of manuscripts based on results of analysis and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer's comments.

•Relying on extensive clinical, statistical and information technology experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

•Providing support and guidance on data and statistical-related issues to the teams, attending project team meetings as necessary, and being responsible for the quality, accuracy and timely completion of assigned tasks.

•Performing data reviews to ensure data are suitable for analysis and providing input on data to be gathered when projects are initiated.

•Providing technical leadership, consultation, advice on statistical analysis, methods and techniques for epidemiologic or research studies. The Biostatistician II will collaborate with other researchers in the healthcare disciplines.

•Efficiently and effectively coordinating statistical activities for multiple projects simultaneously and “connects the dots” among projects

•Maintaining and archiving program documentation - both electronic & paper - in an appropriate manner.

•Working collaboratively with scientists and authoring physicians, investigators, vendors and other external partners.

Competencies

Professional:

•Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement”.

•1-5 years relevant experience

•2+ years as a statistician

•Master’s Degree e.g. MPH, MHA, MBA, MS, MA (Master Degree in Statistics or Biostatistics preferred) or Ph.D.

Requirements

•Excellent communication skills; ability to present to executive level audience

•Detail-oriented and strong desire to find solutions to problems

•Ability to self-manage multiple tasks and prioritize work according to team and company goals

•Expert knowledge of R software

•Advanced capabilities in reporting/BI Platforms: Required - Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint Preferred - PowerBI, Tableau

•Intermediate capabilities in SQL

•Advanced knowledge in applied statistics including study design methodologies, categorical data analysis, survival analysis etc. Exposure to the use of modeling and simulation to enhance clinical trial design and decision-making would be advantageous.
