Electronic Combat Solutions (ECS) has technology, engineering and program teams that educate and mentor colleagues to deliver leading Electronic Warfare capabilities. BAE Systems is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager who is interested in technical leadership roles on established programs.

The right candidate will be the senior leader in charge of hardware solutions for design for test and factory test stations designs across ECS business area. The highly motivated individual will support design products for DFx, ariteching test and measurement solutions across First Unit Test (FUT), Design Verification Testing (DVT), Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) and Acceptance Testing (ATP).

Candidate will transition solutions to production, evaluate current sustainment activities for high complexity electronic products. This role will be the primary interface to program engineering teams and manufacturing teams in identifying opportunities during all phases of development and sustainment as it pertains to test hardware solutions.

Must demonstrate strong technical aptitude, communication skills and leadership skills and be able to work cross-functionally within the hardware engineering organization and with other discipline/functions.

This position may include the following activities:

  • Manage and lead small to mid-sized multidisciplinary hardware engineering teams through one or more phases of the hardware product lifecycle, including proposals, design, development, integration, test, transition to production and/or sustainment.

  • Support the test and troubleshooting of complex electronic systems, modules and sub-assemblies, working directly with production and program engineering personnel as required. May include high-speed digital products and RF products.

  • Interface with Engineering, Operations, Quality and other supporting functions to drive defect resolution to root cause

  • Generate and implement improvements in product and test design and methodologies to reduce cost, increase yield, and improve throughput.

  • Generate and review technical content of test procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, reports, Engineering Change Orders, and other documentation.

  • Support Root Cause and Corrective Action activities

  • Provide daily work direction to other employees on a regular basis. Mentor peers and more junior engineers in areas of expertise

  • Regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in technical areas. Exercise considerable judgment in determining objectives.

  • Act as a player-coach, lead from a platform of technical expertise, reviewing work packages from your engineers, provide constructive criticism, assure Program requirements are met, schedules are maintained, and engineers are advancing in their craft.

  • Staffing: Fill engineer needs through rigorous technical interviewing for positions in highly matrixed, highly dynamic environment. Responsible for technically assessing and screening talent, training talent, to the quantities and quality necessary to staff programs throughout the business area through department business area points-of-contact.

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BSEE or MSEE with 8 years, experience leading engineering teams

  • Experience with designing and manufacturing complex electronics products in a high-mix / low-volume environment.

  • Capable of proposing a collection of architectures, creating plan of attack, working alongside other engineers as an individual design contributor for RF and digital products.

  • Practical experience designing products to fit a factory capabilities, including but not limited to Design for Test (DFT), Desing for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for System (DFS), etc

  • Understand fundamentals of product test as a discipline including: test coverage analysis, FMEA, MSA, etc. Experience industrial standard rack-and-stack test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers.

  • Run, build, and maintain hardware groups including:

  • Test / fixture stations design

  • Communications protocols

  • Signal integrity / grounding

  • Boundary scan

  • Diagnostics / Built-in-Self-Test

  • FPGA / Firmware download

  • RF characterization

  • Hands-On Troubleshooting Skillsquickly dissect problems in design or production to get to root- cause

  • Lead as a trusted advisor across the business area, changing the course of execution through persuasive communication and influence.

  • Experience with modern hardware, firmware, and software development techniques and tools

  • Current DoD Security Clearance

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Active Secret Clearance HIGHLY PREFERRED

  • 12 years experience working with complex electrical products in a transition to production and/or sustainment role

  • Design experience working with mixed technology and/or RF products in a test and troubleshooting capacity

  • Experience with high-speed digital, processor and analog designs

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
