POSITION SUMMARY:

With minimal guidance in a team environment, will be accountable for the strategic direction, development and completion of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR’s) for all products manufactured at this location. Responsible for complex assignments and products which include taking initiative to research problems and develop solutions such as the documentation of necessary drawing and work processing revisions. Performs job independently and serves as key resource to leadership and other team members regarding FAIR’s.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates on cross functional teams for new product development with customers, when required, to align the FAIR requirements with production which includes new product development. Provide strategic direction for lean/continuous improvement initiatives for the department.

Leads and assigns daily tasks for the group, provides process and or technical direction, review team metrics and customer requirements, work collaboratively as a team. Assists in facilitating team problem solving and team meetings, as required.

· Collect and organize necessary documentation, in support of all First Article Test Reports as requested by the customer, process changes or product introduction which includes the creation of AS9102 forms based on individual drawing requirements.

· Work from complex drawings, special instructions such as process sheets, supplier purchase orders, customer purchase orders and flow down requirements, inspection plans, and work instructions.

· Work with Inspection team to perform any of the inspections required to complete the FAIR package.

· Ability to use FAIR software (Net-Inspect) and Discus for generating the FAIR packages required to meet AS9102 requirements.

· Hands on mechanical aptitude a plus.

· Ability to multi-task and ability to organize all types of paperwork and parts.

· Ability to work independently or within a team environment.

Assist with providing and coordinating training to increase team members’ job knowledge and abilities, when required. Assists team leader with follow up to ensure that plant-wide goals are achieved, and counseling team members as appropriate/required.

Ability to measure parts using various inspection equipment as necessary. Conduct training to other team members when needed for measuring parts with current or new measurement equipment.

Prepares for and successfully conducts internal audits per AS9102 of products in process to determine if a FAIR is required including any changes made within the processing of the parts, machining locations, 2-year lapse in production, source changes, or any additional changes that would warrant a new or partial FAIR to be generated.

Helps to ensure team achieves results, meets goals, and follows up promptly on action items and requests, which may include expediting a FAIR to meet customer deadlines or shipping commitments. Track the productivity of the team.

Assists team leaders in meeting team production results or goals and division objectives are met. Supports an environment of efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Ensures the team follows quality and safety policies and procedures and maintains certification as the responsible RSO (Radiation Safety Officer). Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Collaborates with planners, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and supervisors on projects to implement changes to reduce errors and improve throughput.

Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments.

Actively participates in lean/continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work areas.

Ensures equipment calibration and preventive maintenance are maintained on all measurement equipment being utilized for FAIR’s.

Other duties as required to assist the team leader.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Requires an associate degree or higher with at least 1 year of drawing interpretation, measurement techniques, ability to interpret specifications.

Requires Vision examination per the requirements.

Ability to understand codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the inspection requirements of all parts produced. Must have the ability to understand commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.

Effectively demonstrate team member competencies, Lean Problem-Solving Tools, participates in goal setting, performance feedback, team and self-development activities.

The ability to interpret reports and use job specific software applications. Able to use employee self-service systems to access on-line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e. PMR, TORS, Solumina, Enovia, time keeping systems, email)

Communicates with vendors, customers, engineers, schedulers, and team members regarding work product and processes and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Able to read and understand written instructions, procedures, drawings and blueprints. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to utilize computer to access specifications and complete Radiographic inspection reports. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Additional Comments:

The person in this position needs to intermittently move about inside the plant to transition parts through the assigned work areas. The team member frequently remains in a stationary position. The team member has frequent exposure to x-ray equipment and noise and frequently moves materials weighing up to 30 lbs. around the plant.
