GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Plans, manages and supervises the activities of a section of the anatomic pathology department. Performs clerical and environmental duties in the histology/cytology department.

Provides support for the pathologists in handling and retrieving specimens. Responsible for adhering to department standards for patient identification and specimen integrity.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Certification as a Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.

3 years of experience in histology required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. . Plans, prepares and coordinates work schedules to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of staff. Plans, prepares and maintains assigned procedure manuals according to regulatory requirements. Ensures that QC testing is performed, recorded and evaluated according to established guidelines. Independently resolves technical and safety issues in a timely and appropriate manner.

Deals with issues affecting shift or department as required. Ensures that department or shift meets all regulatory requirements. Computer data entry skills and ability to type 30 wpm. Human relations, communication, and supervisory skills. Absolute integrity with patient information and in the accurate performance of tasks. Ability to work independently. Good organizational skills.
