General Job Description

This is a professional position responsible for serving as a student conduct hearing officer for the university. Responsible for supporting the Assistant Dean of Students in managing the student disciplinary and conduct process, upholding behavioral expectations and community standards, and developing and implementing informal resolution and mediation procedures for various campus constituencies. Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Assistant Dean of Students.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Receives and reviews referrals and incident reports submitted to determine appropriate action, including both behavioral and academic conduct.

  2. Meets with students and student organizations who have allegedly violated the Code of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity to ascertain their level of involvement and adjudicate accordingly.

  3. Maintains student conduct database and files on all disciplinary cases and informational incident reports.

  4. Tracks all sanctions and sanction compliance.

  5. Seeks and provides educational resources for students found responsible for conduct violations to ensure students are learning from their student conduct experiences.

  6. Delivers presentations to the campus community on the Code of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity.

  7. Engages in systematic research and assessment to identify trends in student conduct.

  8. Remains current on legal, regulatory, and trending issues in higher education and their relevance to campus student conduct practices.

  9. Recommends revisions of the student code of conduct as necessary to remain consistent with the law, university and system policy, and national benchmarking standards.

  10. Conducts assessments to target improvements to program effectiveness and student success.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.

  3. Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.

  4. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  5. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.

  6. Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students.

  7. Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other.

  8. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  9. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  10. Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgment in making decisions.

  11. Ability to set priorities and complete projects on time.

  12. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.

Required Experience and Training

One year of related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred. Experience in a student affairs setting in higher education working with student conduct is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Salary Information Hiring Salary - $43,888

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
