Job Title Student Assistant/Internship (Rusche College of Business-Office of Student Services)
General Description
This is a student position that may be used as a paid internship within the Office of Student Services in the Rusche College of Business. The goal of the position is to increase and enhance support for students struggling with their academic goals, specifically, but not limited to, probation and suspension students. If filled as an internship, it may count towards course credit or be accepted as a stand-alone internship.
Job Duties
Serves as point of contact for probation and suspension students.
Creates opportunities and maintains availability during work hours for probation and suspension students to communicate and discuss their concerns and issues relating to their status.
Researches and creates enhanced awareness for probation and suspension students of available resources and tools both locally and online, including basic needs such as food, housing, and health.
Collaborates and assists with designing, implementing, and assessing a survey of probation and suspension students.
Maintains digital files and records of probation and suspension student engagement.
Tracks probation and suspension academic progress and self-reporting improvements.
Produces applicable reports as requested.
Attends meetings with Office of Student Services supervisor and staff as needed.
Routinely consults with the supervisor.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Knowledge of professional standards and ethics in higher education environment.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, office and university-specific software.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Skill in collecting and analyzing semi-complex data.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable persons.
Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Graduate student enrollment in education, social work, or a related field is required. Previous work experience in educational or social work environment is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Majors within the Human Sciences field are preferred. Experience working in higher education is preferred. Experience working with high school or college students is preferred.
Physical Demands
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
This is a security-sensitive position and may be subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to Computer and Network Security policy.
