Job Title Student Assistant-WORK STUDY Teacher Assistant
General Description
This is a student position responsible for meeting the daily emotional and physical needs of children in an assigned classroom. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
Greets parents and gathers information about the child.
Supports teachers as necessary and provides children with tasks, supplies, projects, food, and/or snacks as needed.
Tends to children’s needs and interacts with them.
May launder children’s clothing as needed.
Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects toys and equipment as needed.
Provides activities for children (i.e., outside play, walks, trips.)
Fills out and files accident reports as needed.
Completes other necessary paperwork as required.
Cleans respective room and “play yard” as assigned.
Assists with special projects as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to operate equipment such as thermometers, dishwasher, washer & dryer, and telephone.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
ALL ECHL employees must complete 24 basic pre-service training hours per child care licensing requirements, obtain CPR certification within 30 days of hire date, and pass criminal background and fingerprint checks. Training resources are provided.

Physical Demands
The ECHL is open 7:10-5:20 Monday – Friday. Assigned hours vary according to individual class schedule and availability.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
WORK STUDY : Student must qualify for a WORK STUDY PERMIT for each semester the student will be working.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
