Position Information
Job Title Student Assistant - Social Media
General Description
This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.
Job Duties
Provides creative ideas and assists in the execution of digital content across various social media platforms.
Coordinates and assists with student features, videos, and takeovers.
Attends SFA events (including events held after normal business hours) to gather and create multimedia content, including photos and videos.
Assists in writing engaging and platform-specific social media posts.
Produces and edits short-form videos tailored for social media.
Serves as on-camera talent for short-form video content.
Engages with social media audience members (e.g. responds to comments, tagged posts, and messages).
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Thorough knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, and X.
Ability to shoot and edit short-form video.
Ability to take high-quality photographs on a smartphone, camera or other device.
Ability to communicate professionally with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with current social media trends and best practices.
Familiarity with software or apps commonly used in social media management, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and platform-specific editing.
Experience with vlogging or capturing “a day in the life”-type content.
Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities ( ADA ) guidelines and how to create accessible content, specifically how to use features within social media platforms to make content accessible.
Some knowledge of graphic design.
Physical Demands
May need to carry camera or tech equipment.
May be required to walk to various locations on campus.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
